Equine Assistant Position Summary:
Assists in the management of The Life Adventure Center farm including caring for horses, equipment, and equine areas. Entrusted with the daily care and responsibility for farm livestock and providing farm-related services.
Job duties and responsibilities:
Perform daily care and maintenance of the equine center and resident horses. This includes but is not limited to: feeding of grain and hay, cleaning stalls and barn areas, maintaining waterers, pastures, and run-in sheds, administering medications and health treatments as needed, monitoring condition and security of the property.
Handle horses in a safe, humane, and compassionate manner.
Report injury, illness, or lameness to the director and treat according to recommendations.
Interact with program participants and volunteers according to Life Adventure Center policies.
Monitor safety of horses and equine areas.
Perform additional chores and farm maintenance as assigned.
As with all positions at LAC, this position extends beyond work as a role model to youth in our community.
Provides services in a manner that respects individual dignity and cultural heritage.
Qualifications:
Education or appropriate experience in the equine industry.
Ability to operate farm equipment; including but not limited to golf cart, gator, farm vehicles, weed eater.
Knowledge and ability to provide daily care of horses according to LAC standards.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
Self-motivated and able to work independently.

Equine Director
Compensation: Rent and utilities in shared housing for 10 hours per week.
