October Letter from the Executive Director

Dear Friends,

Happy (almost) Halloween!

I hope you are enjoying the beautiful, albeit rainy, fall weather we have been having lately. Though our group sizes are limited, we have remained booked throughout this season, thanks in part to our ability to do so much of our programmatic work outdoors, on our beautiful 575-acre property.

Our staff have been especially busy since the academic year started, running two cohorts of our fall adventure camp during the week alongside other programs in the morning, at night, and even on the weekends! Program staff, along with myself and our Director of Philanthropy, also recently virtually attended continuing education on “Trauma Informed Engagement: The intersection of racism, bias and traumatic stress.” This has been incredibly helpful as we continue to refine our policies with a goal of providing trauma informed care to all of our participants.

We have also welcomed visitors during our annual Pumpkin Train event, which has been running every Saturday in October. This fundraiser has not only raised money that will go right back into scholarships for our participants, it also allows us to share our mission with the train riders. Thank you thank you thank you to the volunteers who help make this event possible for us!

Finally, mark your calendars for the week of November 29th! We’re going to be sharing many of things that make LAC great, including the incredible impact we continue to have on kids from schools and groups from across Central Kentucky. We will also ask you to consider supporting the work we’re doing here. Do you want to help give someone the tools to change their lives? Stay tuned!

Best,

Tim
