Originally from Arizona, Tim moved to Kentucky in 2012 to “take the reins” here at LAC, enticed by the unique opportunity to help LAC develop as Kentucky’s first Adventure Therapy center. He is passionate about the healing impact outdoor experiences have on trauma recovery. Having devoted 40 years to outdoor education, Tim’s background includes prior positions as a camp counselor, lifeguard, archery instructor, riflery instructor, desert survival instructor, horsemanship instructor, certified overnight horseback guide and rodeo coach. His later career found Tim serving in various administrative positions: school and camp horsemanship director, business owner, camp director, development officer, school administrator, two separate tenures as executive director, and as a member of multiple non-profit boards. He holds a master’s degree in Leisure and Environmental Resources Administration as well as numerous other professional certifications. He lives in Versailles with his wife of over 35 years. Their daughter also moved to Versailles and works in the equine veterinary industry. When not indulging his passions for travel and voracious reading, Tim can usually be found in our woods, on horseback and in the company of his two best friends: a quarter-horse named “Maui” and a cattle dog named “Rosie.”
Cathy is a certified public accountant and brings a wealth of accounting and financial experience to the LAC team. Her background is in construction and she loves telling people “I went from building homes to building lives!” On any given day you may see her out and about on the farm as she oversees the beautiful 575 acres we have been entrusted with to enhance the quality of life in our community.
Laurel is a Woodford County native who has the incredible privilege of sharing the impact of the work we do here at Life Adventure Center with donors, friends of LAC, and communities across Central Kentucky. She is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and of the J. David Rosenberg College of Law at the University of Kentucky, and while she is a licensed attorney, you can tell her all the lawyer jokes you want. Laurel previously worked in philanthropy for the University of Kentucky and for the University of Georgia Foundation. She lives in Midway (her hometown!) with her husband, three kids, and numerous pets, and you can usually find her reading, cooking, and trying to convince her family they need just one more dog.
Kari is excited to come back to her second home! In 2016, Kari was a part of the LAC team as a Program Facilitator where her passion for the outdoors and helping others were combined, leaving her heartbroken when she had to say “goodbye” to the people and program that she loved. Little did she know, it was not “goodbye” but “see ‘ya later”. When the opportunity to be a part of the team again was provided, she knew it is where she is meant to be. Kari is a graduate from Western Kentucky University with a Bachelor’s in Recreation Administration, with an emphasis in Outdoor Leadership, and completed her Master’s in Recreation Administration, with an emphasis in Recreation Therapy. Kari is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, who believes in the power of recreation and leisure, especially outdoor adventure, to achieve goals and enrich lives. She is a certified Wilderness First Responder, Level II American Canoe Association Instructor, and has completed 120 hours of Yoga Fit’s Intensive Trauma-Informed Warrior Teacher Training.
When Kari isn’t working, she enjoys being a momma to her spirited daughter, engaging in yoga, exploring nature, camping, and attending live music venues. Kari loves always striving for adventure and seeking out opportunities for growth and connectedness to others.
Kathy, “Kat”, our Office Manager/Program Registrar, came to Life Adventure Center 5 years ago. She is a lifelong resident of Woodford County. After graduating from Woodford County High School and the University of Kentucky, Kat taught at both Simmons and Southside elementary schools. She is a devoted University of Kentucky Wildcat fan and also follows whichever college basketball team her son is coaching. She is married to Jeff Miller. Together they have 4 sons.
A proud Nebraskan at heart, Megan found her way to Kentucky through an internship with Life Adventure Center in 2017. She soon fell in love with both the people and the place. She has worked in a few different roles here at LAC and now serves as the Operations Manager assisting in schedule making, keeping the kitchen in order, recruiting and coordinating volunteers, and helping directly with programs whenever possible. Megan has a BA in Parks & Recreation and is working toward a Master’s in Social Work. Megan is excited to share her knowledge to support the individuals we serve at LAC.
Rain or shine, any time of the year, you can find Lauren making sure the horses are fully taken care of. Lauren is an EAGALA Certified Equine Specialist and CHA Instructor with a gift for making people from any background comfortable around horses. She is also from North Carolina, but we try not to hold that against her.
