Life Adventure Center uses outdoor adventure to transform lives affected by trauma and build more resilient people for a better world.
Hello friends,
Whether this is the first time you’re learning about Life Adventure Center or if you’ve been a friend of “LAC” for years, I’m so glad you’re here! It’s my privilege to serve as the Executive Director of this incredible nonprofit organization that does the good and necessary work of connecting those with trauma backgrounds with empowering, intentionally sequenced outdoor adventure programming designed to build resilience. It is joyful, life changing, hard work; and there’s nowhere else I’d rather be.
One of the things that makes Life Adventure Center so special is our compassionate, dynamic staff. We embrace a trauma informed approach which to us means creating physically and emotionally safe spaces, knowing we need to earn trust and taking the time to build it, emphasizing a collaborative approach, empowering and celebrating individual goal setting, and being culturally aware and sensitive.
Where we are says a lot about who we are – we operate on 575 gorgeous acres in Versailles, Kentucky in the heart of the Bluegrass. Across these rolling hills you’ll find horses both grazing and working as a part of our equine assisted learning program, a canoe pond, archery range, challenge course elements, mountain bike trails, ziplines, a bunkhouse, cabins, the Brown Family Pavilion (named in honor of the founders of Life Adventure Camp), an assembly building, and a full-service kitchen.
And at the highest point of our property, you’ll find one of my favorite spots — our meditative labyrinth. Our labyrinth was created by a former counselor from Life Adventure Camp and intentionally faces east to represent hope and is created with stones brought in to represent stages of our history, including from the original Cleveland Home and Life Adventure Camp. Our labyrinth helps us stay connected to our roots and to our 150+ year history of serving those most needing support in our Commonwealth. We look forward to continuing to serve in the years to come, and hope you’ll follow along on our journey to build more resilient people for a better world.
Welcome to Life Adventure Center. I’m so glad you’re here.
My best,
Julie B.
